NAB 2024: The Return to a New Place
Two years ago, I stepped into my first NAB show as a nervous newcomer. Today, as I reflect on my journey, I’m struck by the remarkable transformation in the show and myself. The badge around my neck no longer felt like a visitor’s pass; it had become a symbol of belonging.
A Collective Exhale
The NAB Show has always been a barometer for the broadcasting industry, and the bustling convention floor felt like fair weather. There were familiar faces, hearty handshakes, and a palpable sense of excitement in the air. The larger booths and crowds were a testament to a community emerging from the shadow of a global pandemic with a renewed sense of excitement and connection. It was a collective sigh of relief—a sign that we were ready to embrace the opportunities ahead.
Showcasing Innovation
Davicom’s presence at the show mirrored this change. Our new, spacious booth proudly showcased our well-known Davicom Cortex products, accessories, and the stars of the show – the game-changing AXONs and NEUROs. The excitement these new products generated was electric. It was a proud moment to witness our team’s hard work materialize into solutions that captivated our peers.

Personal Growth
This year’s NAB marked a personal milestone. Armed with increased knowledge about both our products and the industry, I felt more confident and integral to the conversation. The excitement surrounding the AXONs and NEUROs was infectious, and I couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride with every feature I demonstrated and every question I answered.

A Missed Tradition and New Connections
The DEX Breakfast, a staple of the NAB experience for many, was notably absent this year. This decision wasn’t made lightly, but the understanding and support from our community made it easier to bear. However, the connections made and discussions had at our booth were nothing short of inspiring. The spirit of the breakfast lived on as the Davicom family, old and new, converged at our booth.
A memory of past DEX breakfasts- unfortunately put on pause.
Journeys and Joys
Beyond business, NAB offered unexpected adventures. From epic Asian foodie finds in Las Vegas with Louis-Charles to an impromptu site visit and installation optimization, every twist and turn added to the richness of the experience.
Travel, as always, had its own script. There were the usual baggage issues but these were minor inconveniences. While the outbound journey to Las Vegas was much smoother than last time, the return gifted me an unexpected sojourn – a lengthy layover in Toronto. This turned into a chance to rest, reflect, and discuss the future. It was a reminder that even amidst unexpected detours, there’s always a silver lining waiting to be discovered.
Reflections and Revelations
As I wrap up my reflections on NAB 2024, I realize that my journey with Davicom, much like the NAB, is a microcosm of the industry. It can welcome the greenest of the green, nurture them, appreciate their diversity, and celebrate their ascent. It’s a community that stands united, resilient in the face of challenges, and jubilant in the wake of success.
So, here’s to the NAB Show– a beacon that shines brightly, drawing us together, pushing us forward, and reminding us that it isn’t just about the technology created but the connections forged and the stories told.
Until we meet again, I extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. Your support and camaraderie are what make this industry truly special. See you around—let’s continue to build this story together!
Until next time,
Shaun
